Gold is a precious stone of immense value. Yet, any land rich in gold is infertile for farming. Simply put, a goldmine is unsuitable for agriculture.
A story is told of a farmer in Ghana who had cultivated his land for years without good harvests. Frustrated, he decided to sell the land at a giveaway price to a geologist, believing it was "infertile."
After purchasing the land, the geologist discovered unusual minerals and took them for testing. To his greatest joy, he found that they were raw gold.
Raw gold! The poor farmer had unknowingly been farming on a goldmine.
The geologist developed the land into one of Ghana’s biggest gold mines, while the former owner—who once owned the land—was later employed as a laborer there. Unable to bear the pain of regret, the farmer ended his life.
The late Myles Munroe once said, “When the purpose of a thing is not
known, abuse is inevitable.”
Like the poor farmer, many of us are farming on goldmines. But remember: goldmines cannot yield farm produce. They are too valuable for that.
Farming on a goldmine is a misalignment of purpose, and it will always be unprofitable.
Talent is like raw gold—blessed is the one who recognizes its value.
Many of us are forcing our talents where they are not needed and then complaining out of frustration.
